Musical Instrument Zoo (11 a.m. - 12 noon) Rather like a petting zoo, the lobby of the Port Theatre will be transformed into a musical corral where folks can stroll in from shopping, visiting the library, straight from doing chores in the barn or recreating at the swimming pool, and check out the musical critters (instruments). VI Symphony musicians will be on hand to let children ‘have a go’ with a violin, cello, flute, oboe, trombone, trumpet and fun percussion – just to name a few of the musical critters. And there’s no need to get dressed up - it’s rehearsal day. Besides, the VI Symphony is classical and CASUAL!

It’s
Symphony Community Day – And it’s FREE!
Yup, it’s the return of the ever-popular Musical
Instrument Zoo on Saturday, April 20 as the Vancouver Island Symphony hosts
their Symphony Community Day – and it’s FREE!

NoteworthyKids
Family Event (11:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.) - The whole family (and
anyone who is curious and would like to find out what the symphony is like
behind the scenes) can come along to hear all about the adventures of the
NoteworthyKids’ Music Club and meet the special musician of the day. It’s to be
a surprise so we’re not telling! You gotta be there to find out!
Open
Rehearsal (12:30 - 1:30 p.m.) – Then find a seat in the theatre and take in
an open rehearsal. Pierre Simard will be
directing the orchestra and the guest artist ready for the evening concert.
Watch as the maestro works with the musicians to change a phrase here, add an
expression there and have them playing perfectly to give the music just the
right feel!
So mosey on down and join in the fun. FREE TICKETS must be reserved for the Open
Rehearsal by calling 250-754-8550. Donations
towards the NoteworthyKids Music Club are welcomed.
